Aesthetic Growth: The Long-Term Compound Interest of Art

小时候学艺术，经常被问：“学画画以后能干嘛？”

When I was young and studying art, people often asked me:“What can you do with painting in the future?”

那时候回答不上来。现在反而越来越确定：

Back then, I didn’t have an answer.

But now, I’m more certain than ever:

艺术没有直接给我一份工作，却给了我看世界的方式。

Art didn’t directly give me a job — it gave me a way of seeing the world.

来到荷兰生活后，这种感受变得更明显。城市建筑、博物馆、公共空间、街头设计，艺术几乎存在于生活的每个角落。

After moving to the Netherlands, this feeling became even clearer.

Architecture, museums, public spaces, street design —

art exists in almost every corner of daily life.

人在这样的环境中生活，连思考方式都会慢慢改变。

Living in such an environment gradually changes the way you think.

最近和国内一位医美医生聊天，我们突然发现一个共识：看似不同的职业，最后拼的其实都是审美判断。

Recently, while talking with an aesthetic medicine doctor in China,

we realized something in common:

Even in very different professions, what ultimately matters is aesthetic judgment.

乔布斯说过：“It’s all about taste.”到最后，一切都是审美与选择。

As Steve Jobs once said:

“It’s all about taste.”

In the end, everything comes down to taste and choice.

慢慢也理解了一个现象：如果说经济决定社会的物质生活，那么艺术影响的是人类的精神世界。

I’ve also come to understand this:

If the economy shapes our material world,

then art shapes our inner, spiritual world.

其实审美从来不是天赋，而是一种被不断“喂养”的能力。

Aesthetic sense is not a talent.It is a capability that is continuously nurtured and fed.

我们生活的环境、读过的书、看过的展览、经历过的文化体验，都在悄悄塑造我们对美的理解。

The environments we live in,

the books we read,

the exhibitions we visit,

and the cultural experiences we go through —

all quietly shape how we understand beauty.

艺术之所以重要，是因为它不断拓展我们感受世界的方式：一幅画、一段音乐、一部电影，都可能让人看到新的视角，理解不同的情绪与人生。

Art matters because it expands the ways we perceive the world:

A painting, a piece of music, a film — each can offer a new perspective,

help us understand different emotions and lives.

让审美从“视觉的好看”，变成“精神上的共鸣”。

It transforms aesthetics from something that is merely “visually pleasing”

into something that resonates on a deeper, emotional level.

当个人的审美被提升，我们做选择、做产品、做事业，甚至过生活的方式，都会慢慢变得更有质感。

As our aesthetic sense improves,

the way we make decisions, build products, pursue careers,

and even live our lives becomes more refined.

而当越来越多人拥有更高的审美，一个社会的文化氛围与创造力，也会随之提升。

And when more people develop a higher sense of aesthetics,the cultural atmosphere and creativity of a society will naturally evolve.

回头看，从当年不被看好的美术生，到现在在异国每天被艺术“喂养”，我反而越来越庆幸当初的坚持。

Looking back, from being an art student that wasn’t highly valued,

to now being “fed” by art every day in a foreign country,

I feel increasingly grateful for that decision.

审美，是一种长期复利。而艺术，是我们精神世界持续的养分。

Aesthetic sense is a form of long-term compound interest.

And art is the nourishment of our inner world.
